Fashion is the way I introduce myself to the world, every day, without saying anything.

Good morning! We’re back after the best ski-kend ever, with (still) full bellies and slightly sore from skiing on Saturday. The weather in Vermont was perfect; we had a not-too-cold day on Saturday for skiing, and a foot of snow that fell as we cracked open wine and huddled by the wood burning stove. We were able to snap a couple outfit pictures which I’m excited to share tomorrow! After a full couple of days, Raven and I accept the fact that it’s Monday and we’re ready to get back to our routines.
Did you all watch the Oscars last night? It’s a show I look forward to every year, and for some reason last night I was just not into it. I’m not sure if it was because I hadn’t seen many of the movies or what, but I just wasn’t feeling it. It seemed like Neil Patrick Harris, who I adore, fell a little flat, or at least his jokes aimed at screen actors not stage actors, didn’t land. Overall it was a weird night. What did you guys think?

In terms of fashion, however, there is always plenty to talk about. Today’s style dictionary is a nod to last night’s show: haute couture. We hear that word a lot on the red carpet and yet, we don’t truly know what it means. Merriam Webster defines haute couture as, “the houses or designers that create exclusive and often trend-setting fashions for women.” A little more exploration of the term taught me that usually haute couture implies that the clothing is custom made (designed and made by hand) from start to finish, often using complicated sewing techniques and high quality fabric.

Rather than show you 3 pieces of haute couture that you can buy (spoiler alert: we can’t buy them), I thought I’d show you my three favorite looks from last night.

I love Margot Robbie in this Saint Laurent dress – it doesn’t scream Oscars to me, but it just works. It looks like a luxurious robe in the most wonderful way, and her NECKLACE! I gasped when I saw her on the red carpet – simple dress, simple hair, tomato red lip, and the most impressive statement necklace that just completely makes the outfit.

Marion Cotillard was perfect in Christian Dior haute couture – this is a perfect example of hair absolutely making the outfit. I’m not sure I’d love this look if her hair looked different. I love the dark nails, as well. Perfection!

David Oyelowo stood out to me in this Dolce & Gabbana tux – I love the subtly different shades of red/maroon in his tux. It’s different without being costume-y, and he absolutely stood out amongst the trend of navy matte suits with shiny black lapels (which I loved but were everywhere!).

Dakota Johnson was hands down my favorite look of the night. Her Saint Laurent is so beautiful; it fit her perfectly and is classic but sexy at the same time. That one shoulder just makes it! I looove her simple ponytail. Bravo to her stylist!

Did you watch the Oscars last night? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
